Tough Comeback Night

Jack made his much-anticipated Belle Vue debut and returned to racing at Berwick last Saturday night.

The home team in-form having already completed home and away fixtures against Edinburgh, while the Colts team having had little practice.

The Bullets were lead by the highly rated Leon Flint who had already recorded heat wins in the preceding Berwick Bandits Championship fixture, along with team mate Kyle Bickley, so it was always going to be a difficult night, and so it proved with home side much faster from the starts on track with long narrow straights where passing is always difficult.

Jack took his first ride in heat 1 from gate 4, unsurprisingly didn't make the best of starts but managed to get himself into 2nd place behind Flint with a charge around the first 2 corners, but he got caught out by the track conditions on the fourth bend and came down on his own. He was quickly on his feet and cleared the track allowing the race to continue.

Jack dusted himself down and rode determinedly ending the night with 4 points from 3 completed rides. He improved with each ride and was philosophical despite the difficult night.

Jack said "I was very nervous before the meeting but felt better has the night went on. The bike is new to me and practice is great but racing is totally different and we learnt a lot about the engine tonight. Lots of positives and I know what I need to be working on. I had really no expectations tonight three years is a long time off the bike and it may take a few meetings to get back into the swing. The Belle Vue management have been very supportive and putting no pressure on me but I can assure everyone I will be working hard to get back among the points.

Jack added "I would like to thank everyone who has sent me messages of support. Despite the obvious disappointment at losing our opening meeting the team spirit was good with everyone mucking in"

Jack will make his home Belle Vue debut this Friday 28th May, with the return fixture against a Berwick team tracking no less then 3 former Colts riders. " it's going to be another hard meeting we are a new team and some of the Berwick boys have a lot experience of the NSS track than us but we going to be up for it and determined to get our first points on the board"
